"The Levant Fair", 1936 - Six Posters - Last Fair at the Levant Fair Site
Six advertising posters for events held as part of the 1936 Levant Fair. Tel Aviv, 1936.
The 1936 Levant Fair was overshadowed by the Arab Revolt, which began two weeks prior to the fair's opening and shut down Jaffa Port. The fair was therefore relatively low-key, with many planned events canceled, and many performers canceling their participation. The fair caused its organizers financial losses, and was the last to take place at the Yarkon peninsula site (the Yarkon estuary); the following fairs, which took place only after the establishment of the state, were held at the Tel Aviv Convention Center (Ganei HaTa'arucha).
1. "Holiday Presentation of the 'Ohel' Theater - Jeremiah". Design: Oscar Lachs. The play, written by Stefan Zweig, was translated by Avigdor HaMeiri and staged at the Levant Fair amphitheater on the last day of the Shavuot festival, 27 May 1936.
2. "HaMem-Gimel or Brit Achim, Spectacle for Local Produce", by Emanuel Harussi, melodies by Vardina Shlonsky, conductor: Marc Lavry, scenic design: Emanuel Luftglas (Emanueli).
3. "The Day of the Hebrew Woman, for Local Produce", 20 May 1936. The event was organized by the Center for Local Produce, WIZO and the Women Workers' Committee of the Workers' Union and was attended by Henrietta Szold, Hadassah Samuel, Gertrud Kraus, Bracha Tsfira and other famous women.
4. Animal procession as part of "Animal Day" at the agricultural exhibition presented at the Levant Fair stadium (with the participation of the Cattle Growers' Organization of Switzerland and Romania), May 1936.
5. "Gifts for the Purchasers of Subscription Cards at the First Distribution" - advertisement for subscriptions to the Levant Fair, early 1936.
6. "Levant Fair News" - informative poster, March 1936.
Average size: 63X95 cm. Condition varies. All six posters are mounted on linen. Some of the posters have tears, some of them open and repaired. Stains and creases.
